Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit - such as your preferences or whether you have already given consent - making your next visit easier and the site more useful to you.

We also use similar technologies such as localStorage to store lightweight preferences (for example, your chosen colour theme) directly in your browser without sending data to a server.

2. How We Use Cookies

We group the cookies and similar technologies on this site into three categories:

Necessary

These are required for the site to function correctly. They cannot be disabled. They include:

NameProviderPurposeExpiry
cc_cookie Kakion (vanilla-cookieconsent) Stores your cookie consent choices so you are not asked again on every visit. 6 months
kakion-theme Kakion Remembers your dark/light theme preference. Stored in localStorage, not sent to any server. Persistent (localStorage)

Analytics

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the site - which pages are read and where visitors arrive from - so we can improve it. They are only placed if you consent, and nothing is collected until you do.

We use PostHog for analytics, running on PostHog's EU Cloud so this usage data is processed and stored within the European Union. PostHog uses the following cookie, alongside similar identifiers kept in your browser's localStorage:

NameProviderPurposeExpiry
ph_<id>_posthog PostHog (EU Cloud) Stores an anonymous device and session identifier so repeat visits and page views can be counted. It does not store your name, email, or other directly identifying details. 1 year

As part of the same analytics, PostHog Session Replay records a replay of how visitors move through the site - pages viewed, clicks, scrolling and mouse movement - so we can see where the experience can be improved. Text you type into forms is masked and is not captured. These recordings use the same PostHog cookie above and only take place after you consent to analytics; withdrawing consent stops them.

Marketing

Marketing cookies are used to serve relevant advertising on other platforms and to measure the effectiveness of campaigns. These are only placed if you consent. At the time of writing, no marketing cookies are active - this category is reserved for Meta Pixel, which will be added in a future update.

_fbp Meta (Facebook) Used by Meta to deliver a series of advertisement products, such as real-time bidding from third-party advertisers. 3 months

3. Managing Your Preferences

You can review and update your cookie choices at any time by clicking in the footer of any page, or by using the banner that appears on your first visit.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or delete cookies that have already been set. For guidance, visit your browser's help pages:

Note that disabling cookies through your browser may affect the functionality of this and other websites you visit.

4. Third-Party Cookies

Where third-party services are used, those providers may set their own cookies subject to their own privacy policies. We currently use PostHog for analytics; Meta Pixel is reserved for future marketing use and is not active yet.

5. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of cookies changes or as required by law. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to check back periodically.

6. Contact
